If April showers bring May flowers, what will seemingly unending cold and snow bring us?
Why is Mother Nature keeping up this cruel April Fool’s joke?
For gardeners throughout Alberta, this ‘spring’ has been a tough one, as we look longingly at our snow-covered flower beds knowing that plants are just waiting to come to life. Glacial snow piles, solid ice sheets and frozen soil is going to take some time to thaw out and as we continue to try and celebrate spring through promotion of colour, indoor plants and getting ready, we’re are not alone in the spring waiting game. Golf courses, landscapers, spring and summer athletes, farmers and so many more are feeling the pain of this already way-to-long winter season.
Keep Your ‘Spring Pain’ At Bay
So, what do you do to keep your spring pain at bay? Finish up indoor projects, finalize outdoor plans and wish lists, take a walk through our spring décor filled Garden Centre, listen to the birds as they brave the cold air and sing for blue skies and spring or grumble about what we can’t change. We will continue to celebrate Spring until it does arrive by providing fun workshops, design seminars, a Colouring Contest, colourful plants and flowers, a bounty of spring home and garden décor, a Spring Fling Ladies night and many spring deals. We do have seed geraniums, tomatoes, herbs, dracaena, basket stuffers, seeds, summer bulbs, potatoes, berry shrubs and more if you need to get your green thumb warmed up and your indoor growing shelves filled. We also must chat with Balzac Billy to see what went wrong on Ground Hog Day.
We are still very optimistic that before we know it, we’ll be right smack in the middle of our busy season. As soon as our sod fields thaw out we’ll bring it in, as soon as we can start digging holes in the ground the trees and shrubs will arrive, as soon as the temperatures remain above 0 degrees Celsius we’ll have all sorts of perennials and annuals available. As soon as our growing season is here in actuality, we will encourage all of you to get gardening. We are just as impatient as you are. As usual expect us to be fully stocked by Mother’s Day and in full swing by the traditional May Long Weekend start date.
Continue to celebrate Spring’s arrival, Earth Day and all the wonderful things April brings. The snow will melt, the grass will grow, and we will be back in our gardens once again. Take care YYC and enjoy today, and hope spring will be here to stay.
