Welcome to a new year with Blue Grass! As always, we plan to continue to share inspiration, garden advice, great products, great service and sincere gratitude for all your support in years previous and into the upcoming year.
The year 2017 was a good one, and we’re hoping 2018 will prove to be even better.
We are looking forward to things picking up post-Christmas and as we head into the spring gardening season. This winter has been a bit all over the place with weather, but hopefully things will settle down and carry us gently into spring.
If you’re like most of us, once all the seasonal shenanigans of the holidays are over and the Christmas décor is all put away, things seem a little empty. Some embrace the cleanliness and organization, while others seek things to fill up the space. You could go out and buy furniture or more home décor, or we would like to recommend filling your spaces with plants! Not only will you fill the physical space, caring for plants are a great way to support your personal space.
Garden Trends 2018
Garden Media Group reports that the overall trend in gardening for 2018 is using plants and gardening as your prescription for mental and physical wellness. Plant spaces or garden oasis’ provide us with clean air, quiet places for relaxing and gardens to provide for plant-based diets. Create quiet places away from wind and weather by choosing plants and materials that assist us in our growing success. Choose plants that are cold hardy, wind resistant, water-loving, drought tolerant or create indoor gardens depending on your space and exposure. Picking the right plant for the right place helps to reduce the stress and worry of growing the perfect garden. For those of us that have an imperfect garden, we are in the sweet spot of this year’s garden trends. Find the beauty in mosaics of plants, imperfect gardens and lawns, natural resources, repurposed materials and ‘Wabi-Sabi’ (very worth checking out this garden concept). Add a little (or a lot) of water to your garden and you’ll have created the perfect oasis for the overall well-being of you and yours.
Spring Is Coming
Spring supplies, garden décor and more are starting to refill our shelves. Tree, shrubs, perennial and annual orders have been placed and we’re ready for shipping to begin in early spring. The Greenhouse is full of a great variety of tropical and indoor plants to add some green to your home, as well as flowering plants for some cheery colour. Seeds and growing supplies are already available in case you need to get growing, ask us which are best to start now.
How soon is spring to arrive? Let’s see what Balzac Billy has to say when he emerges from his burrow on Groundhog Day, February 2nd. Join us for an early breakfast from 7am-9am and let’s hope he has the answer we’re looking for. Until then, wishing you a relaxing rest of January and good health into the new year!
